The inboard runway of the south runway complex at Los Angeles International Airport was closed Monday for up to six weeks for construction, and an airport official said “noise impacts” are expected to result.
Officials said that the closure of Runway 25 Right is necessary to facilitate construction of Taxiway 75, which will connect the north and south runway complexes at the west end of the airport. During the closure, three runways will be handling aircraft takeoffs and landings usually accommodated by four, which is expected to result in additional traffic on Runway 25 Left.
“With additional operations on Runway 25 Left, noise impacts are anticipated, and we will make every effort to mitigate noise and be sensitive to the local area,” said Clifton A. Moore, executive director of the Department of Airports.
Residents can call a 24-hour phone number--(213) 646-6473--to report any unusual aircraft noise or violation of noise abatement procedures, Moore said.
