The woman responsible for civilian oversight of the San Francisco Police Department has been selected as executive officer of the board that will examine allegations of misconduct in the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Eileen M. Luna, 46, was chosen from a field of 130 candidates by the 11-member review board. The panel was established by the County Board of Supervisors following voter approval in November, 1990.
Luna will begin her job Jan. 6. The board, which is to begin reviewing cases next year, has the authority to examine any allegations of deputy misconduct and will investigate the death of anyone in the department’s custody.
