El Monte : Waste Fee Hearing Slated

A public hearing was scheduled Jan. 14 on a proposal for a residential fee to pay for a state-mandated waste reduction and recycling program.
City Administrator Gregory D. Korduner said the proposal called for each home or apartment to be charged 45 cents a month. The city can’t afford the costs of the program without charging residents, he said.
But City Councilman Jack T. Crippen objected. “We need to find another way to fund this program other than passing the cost off to residents,” he said.
