Santa Anita Canyon Road, which leads to the popular Chantry Flats hiking area, will be closed for maintenance during daylight hours on weekdays until Dec. 13.
Metal barriers will be replaced along a two-mile stretch of the road in a joint effort of the cities of Sierra Madre and Arcadia. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works also will repair portions of the road that were damaged during the June 28 Sierra Madre earthquake.
Despite the projects, which began Monday, the road will be open from dusk until 10 p.m. and also on weekends and holidays, said Terry Ellis, Arroyo Seco district ranger of the U.S. Forest Service.
