Tyco Recalling Big Bird Toothbrushes: The Big Bird Sparklin’ Smile toothbrushes are being pulled because of possible leaks or ruptures in their batteries. Tyco Inc. said the batteries could leak if one of the four cells is inadvertently reversed. The Mt. Laurel, N.J.-based toy maker said it had received three reports of minor burns to children from the toothbrushes. The toothbrushes, marketed nationwide under Tyco and Ideal labels, were sold between 1986 and 1991 in toy, variety and discount stores. Some were also sold through catalogues. For refunds, Tyco said consumers should mail the toothbrushes to Tyco Industries, Toothbrush Recall, 540 Glen Ave., Moorestown, N.J. 08057.
