Mason Harry Rose V, the former mayor of Rolling Hills, was fined $840 and placed on three years’ probation Tuesday after pleading no contest in South Bay Municipal Court to a charge of carrying a loaded pistol without a permit.
Rose, 53, was stopped in Rolling Hills Estates by sheriff’s deputies on Oct. 10 for driving an unlicensed, unregistered car. The gun charges were filed after deputies discovered a loaded semiautomatic pistol in the car. Rose had an expired permit to carry a weapon, authorities reported.
The district attorney’s office reported that Rose, who was on the Rolling Hills City Council from 1974 to 1982, entered the no-contest plea in exchange for having three additional misdemeanor charges dropped. He agreed to get his car registered and licensed, officials said.
