In another Marmonte League game:
Newbury Park 13, Camarillo 10--Host Newbury Park stopped Camarillo on downs in the fourth quarter to preserve the Panthers’ third victory in a row after they opened the season with six defeats.
Sophomore quarterback Keith Smith completed 16 of 25 for 213 yards with one interception, and running back Vince Carpio scored on touchdown runs of one and four yards for Newbury Park (3-6, 3-3).
Camarillo’s Fahali Campbell rushed for a game-high 128 yards in 19 carries.
Trailing, 7-0, the Scorpions (4-5, 2-4) scored on a 43-yard field goal by Lee Ciuffitelli on the final play of the first half.
Defensive back Ryan Durazo intercepted a Smith pass and returned it 72 yards for Camarillo’s only touchdown with 11 minutes 45 seconds to play to narrow the Scorpions’ deficit to 13-10.
Camarillo drove to the Newbury Park 29 on its ensuing series but was stopped on a fourth-and-four play.
