ROUNDUP : Romines Takes and Receives in Simi Valley’s 34-20 Win

Dave Romines caught four passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns and also intercepted three passes Friday night to lead Simi Valley High to a 34-20 victory over Westlake in a Marmonte League shootout that featured 88 passes and 900 yards in offense.
Simi Valley’s Eric Bennett completed 14 of 44 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns. Teammate Jevon Markarian added 125 rushing yards in 17 carries.
The Westlake quarterback tandem of John Snyder (13 of 29, 186 yards) and Tim Kirksey (eight of 14, 149 yards) combined for 345 yards but threw four interceptions.
Kevin Savoie recorded the fourth interception, which he returned 70 yards for a touchdown to give Simi Valley a 28-12 lead in the third quarter.
Simi Valley (7-2, 5-1 in league play), ranked 10th in Southern Section Division II, was outgained, 476-424, but forced three fumbles. The loss eliminated Westlake (3-6, 2-4) from playoff contention.
Westlake receiver Erik Holcomb caught nine passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. He had eight catches for 206 yards in the first half.
Holcomb has 2,122 career receiving yards, breaking Matt Young’s Ventura County record of 2,009 yards for Santa Clara High.
