Pacifica 37, Santiago 7--Eric Stevens returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown to help spark the Mariners at Garden Grove High School.
Pacifica (5-2, 3-1) scored three touchdowns in the second quarter. Josh Lewis opened the scoring with an 11-yard run on the first play, followed by a 75-yard touchdown pass from Dan Murray to Rich Main to make it 14-0 with 4:27 left in the half.
Santiago (3-4, 1-3) cut the lead to 14-7 on a 20-yard scoring pass from quarterback Mike Carrasco to Brian Puskas, but Stevens returned the ensuing kickoff to make it 21-7 at half.
The Mariner defensive line, led by Matagi Ala and Matt Langenfeld, controlled the game from the start. Pacifica sacked Carrasco 10 times for losses of 70 yards, which included consecutive sacks on the Cavaliers’ first three plays.
