Teachers Picket Over District Spending
Dozens of teachers from around the San Fernando Valley picketed school district offices in Van Nuys and Panorama City on Wednesday, continuing a citywide protest against what they call wasteful administrative spending practices.
The demonstrations by members of five Los Angeles Unified School District employee unions were part of a weeklong campaign, said a spokeswoman for United Teachers--Los Angeles. UTLA, which is currently in contract negotiations with the district, has called for money to be taken from administrative functions and channeled into teacher salaries.
The citywide series of protests was set off by recent reports of high administrator salaries and travel expenses.
Another protest is scheduled for today in Gardena.
