TOP PERFORMERS
Josh Ireland ran for 117 yards, scoring on runs of one and two yards, and caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from Sean O’Brien to lead Santa Margarita to a 35-0 victory over Littlerock.
Jim Sebreros of Garden Grove rushed for 202 yards in 15 carries and scored two touchdowns, one on an 84-yard run, in Garden Grove’s 34-14 Garden Grove League victory over Santiago.
Jason Johnson ran for 233 yards and three touchdowns, but couldn’t keep La Habra from dropping a 21-20 Freeway League decision to Troy. Johnson has run for 688 yards in four games.
UPSETS
After being shut down in the first half, Savanna quarterback Brad Belanger led the Rebels to a 23-20 upset of No. 7 Brea-Olinda. Belanger passed for 178 of his 201 yards and two touchdowns in the second half. He passed for 57 yards in Savanna’s 77-yard touchdown drive in the last two minutes of the game.
ON DEFENSE
Century needed a big play Friday night against Estancia, and the Centurions got it from Abel Perez, a defensive back. Perez intercepted a Matt Johner pass and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown at the end of the third quarter of Century’s 13-7 Pacific Coast League victory.
Peter Rodriguez intercepted two passes, returning one 62 yards for a touchdown, to help Sunny Hills to a 21-3 Freeway League victory over Sonora.
Brian Barajas had a pass interception and a deflection, and Nickey Sualua had a sack and a deflection for Mater Dei, which remained unbeaten in seven games by defeating St. John Bosco, 35-7, in an Angelus League game.
NOTEWORTHY
Marina sacked quarterback John Khamis five times on the way to upsetting Edison, 15-12, in a Sunset League game. It wasthe Vikings’ second victory over the Chargers in 18 years. The decision also stopped Edison’s 15-game winning streak in the Sunset League, dating back to the second league game of the 1988 season.
Loara had three 100-yard rushers in its 28-12 Empire League victory over Cypress. Robert Bradshaw led the way with 113 yards, and Mister Albritton and Dennis Dawson added 103 and 101 yards, respectively. Each scored a touchdown. The Saxons had 341 yards, including 322 on the ground, to offset 20 penalties for 195 yards.
