BUENA PARK : Exhibit at Mall Will Promote Fire Safety
- Share via
The Fire Department will promote Fire Prevention Week with a special safety exhibit at the Buena Park Mall starting Wednesday.
Established in 1920, Fire Prevention Week is held the second week of October to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which killed 250 people and left 100,000 homeless.
In keeping with this year’s theme, “Fire Won’t Wait, Plan Your Escape,” a special fire safety house will be erected at the mall’s Center Court to teach small children how to escape a fire. Children can crawl through the house to reinforce the notion of keeping close to the ground in smoke.
Additionally, the department will be conducting specialized home evacuation training in local elementary schools. Using special props, fourth-grade students will be taught how to design a home emergency escape plan and to practice that plan routinely.
The display and information booth at the mall will be manned by a firefighter Wednesday through Saturday.
