Seahawks Find Road to Victory

CINCINNATI —  The Seattle Seahawks finally won on the road Sunday against a Cincinnati Bengals team that can’t win anywhere.

John Kasay saved a pair of botched drives with second-half field goals of 36 and 31 yards and Cincinnati’s last-minute drive came up inches short, preserving Seattle’s 13-7 victory.

“Strange things were happening out there today,” said Bengal quarterback Boomer Esiason, who completed 18 of 38 passes for 256 yards.

The Seahawks (3-3) won for the first time in four road games.

The Seattle defense made two big plays to extend the Bengals’ worst start since 1984.

Rufus Porter intercepted a pass by Esiason near midfield--Cincinnati’s fifth turnover--to end one threat with three minutes left.

Seahawk quarterback Steve Kemp, who completed 16 of 31 passes for 204 yards, gave the Bengals another chance when he lobbed a weak pass that was intercepted in the end zone instead of trying to run out the clock and set up a clinching field goal.

Cincinnati (0-5) drove to a fourth-and-five at the Seattle 22. Esiason tossed a short pass to James Brooks, who was tackled immediately by Dwayne Harper and Nesby Glasgow.

A measurement found him inches short of the first down with 29 seconds left.
