TENNIS ROUNDUP : U.S. Men Win Wheelchair Event at Irvine Club

Randy Snow of Austin, Tex., and Rick Slaughter of Nashville, Tenn., won their singles matches Sunday and led the United States wheelchair tennis team to the championship of the World Team Cup at Racquet Club of Irvine.
Snow defeated Laurent Giammartini, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, and Slaughter beat Abde Naili, 6-4, 6-2, giving the U.S. team a 2-0 lead and making the doubles match unnecessary. The United States has won seven consecutive men’s championships.
In the women’s event, the Netherlands won its sixth consecutive title, defeating the United States, 2-0. Chantal Vandierendonck beat Nancy Olson of Stony Point, N.Y., 6-0, 6-3, and Ellen de Lange beat Patty Rollison of Sun Valley, Nev., 6-1, 6-0.
Michigan’s David Kass, the No. 2 seed, defeated UC Irvine’s Mike Roberts in the semifinals of the West Coast Fall Men’s Tennis Championships at Warner Center Club in Woodland Hills.
