Consumer Groups Seek to Limit Cigarette Ads: Consumer rights groups in Asian and Pacific nations sought stronger government actions against smoking, including a ban on television advertisements for foreign-made cigarettes. A resolution adopted at the end of a two-day anti-smoking conference in Seoul, South Korea, also demanded that the United States and other countries stop pressuring Asian nations to ease restrictions on cigarette advertisements. “Asia-Pacific governments should ban all forms of cigarette advertising and promotions, as has been done in Singapore,” said the resolution adopted by the Second Asia-Pacific Conference on Tobacco.
