BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Rader: Firing Wasn’t Personal

Doug Rader, fired as manager on Monday, said Tuesday the Angels fell into “a downward spin that emotionally we couldn’t get out of,” and that he didn’t take his dismissal personally.

“That’s part of the job description, isn’t it? I always thought so,” Rader told a pool reporter. “I know it’s a real possibility every time you take one of these jobs. That’s traditional.”

Rader’s firing completed the turnover of the Angels’ top two baseball positions. Mike Port was fired as general manager in May.

“I think that the organization will very, very definitely miss Mike Port,” Rader said. “Since Mike Port left, things haven’t felt the same.”

Rader said he would like to manage again, but that he also has an interest in structuring an organization, mentioning the appeal of expansion teams.

Mark Langston says he expects to miss his scheduled start Saturday because of his strained right hip flexor muscle. . . . Port interviewed for the position of general manager with the Denver expansion club about a week and a half ago.
