CS Northridge Gains a Defensive Lineman

Ron McKinney, a 6-foot-5, 280-pound defensive tackle from Pasadena City College, has joined the Cal State Northridge football team. McKinney signed a letter of intent with Tennessee two years ago, but he did not earn the Associate in Arts degree that would have allowed him to play for a Division I team.
Northridge plays football in the Division II Western Football Conference.
Two Northridge football players sustained serious injuries in Saturday’s scrimmage at North Campus Stadium. Keith Washington, a cornerback in contention for a starting berth, broke his left arm and will miss at least six weeks. Jim Warren, a fullback expected to see considerable playing time, suffered an injury to his left knee.
A handful of area players will compete today for an all-star baseball team composed of players from the 818 telephone area code in a doubleheader that begins at 3:30 p.m. at Brookside Park in Pasadena. The 818 team, which includes Montclair Prep’s Walt Steele and Crespi High’s Scott Muckey as assistant coaches, will first face a team of all-stars from other area codes in the western United States. At 7 p.m., the 818 stars will play a team of high school all-stars from Korea.
Included on the 818 team are second baseman Brad Fullmer and outfielder Chris Portugal of Montclair Prep, third baseman Vic Seper and catcher Brett Farlow of Crespi, catcher Sam Voita of Granada Hills, outfielder Kevin Nykoluk of Simi Valley and shortstop John Aguilar of Hart.
