PARIS — France’s Communist Party defiantly vowed Tuesday to continue the struggle against capitalism despite the collapse of communism in the Soviet Union.
“The Communist Party is being urged to scuttle itself,” the party’s Politburo said after a marathon meeting to discuss calls from for reforms.
But it added: “We do not and shall not renounce our objective of transforming our society.”
A party spokesman said the Central Committee will hold an emergency meeting next Tuesday to discuss the Soviet upheaval.
The Politburo said the French party rejects the view that the fall of Soviet communism marks the end of communism in general.
