Lautenschlager, Earley Qualify for Finals in Diving

Brian Earley of Northridge earned a berth in the men’s three-meter springboard finals and Janae Lautenschlager of Northridge advanced in the women’s three-meter springboard competition in the U.S. diving championships in Bartlesville, Okla., on Friday.
Earley, who Thursday qualified for Sunday’s men’s platform final, totaled 477.27 points to place eighth and become the only men’s qualifier from the Valley area. Top qualifying honors went to Mark Lenzi of Fredericksburg, Va., who totaled 590.94 points. Later Friday, Lenzi won his first one-meter national title.
Lautenschlager totaled 429.09 points to finish sixth and become the area’s only woman qualifier. Top qualifying honors went to Krista Klein of Dallas, who totaled 452.64 points.
Scores from the semifinals do not carry over to today’s finals.
