A Taste of Vienna

It isn’t Vienna, but it may be the next best thing for those who love Austria and live in the vicinity of La Mirada. Vienna in Concert, a touring panoramic presentation of Austrian history, opened Sunday at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
The heart of the exhibition is a multi-panel painting that is 184 feet long and 8 feet high. The panel themes focus on the major composers and performers who have lived in the Austrian capital and made it an enclave of culture. At left, Millie and Joe Matrenga study some of the accompanying text.
The grand opening featured music by an Austrian folk music quartet and samples of authentic Austrian pastries. The event also marked the first public appearance of the new Austrian consul general of Los Angeles, Christian Prosl, above.
The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays through July 27 and two hours prior to ongoing performances of “The Sound of Music,” a production of the Whittier-La Mirada Light Opera Assn.
