Birtcher Contract: Single-family homes are still the big product in Orange County, but condos--even high-rise condos--are gaining as land gets pricier and scarcer.
And Birtcher Construction Ltd. of Laguna Niguel will soon be getting a little experience under its belt in Los Angeles that it might someday put to use closer to home.
The general contracting firm has landed a $6.3-million contract to build the luxury Devonhill Condominiums at Devon Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles.
The five-story, steel-frame building will include a spa and 17 condos of about 3,400 square feet apiece, all built atop an underground garage. The developer, Devonshire Associates of Santa Monica, said it plans to sell the condos for more than $1 million a unit.
