Nolan Ryan spent about three hours in an Arlington, Tex., hospital emergency room early Wednesday morning because of chest pains.
The Texas Ranger right-hander underwent a battery of tests that revealed no cardiac problem. A strained sternum muscle is believed to have caused his chest pains.
“Strains, the story of my life this year,” Ryan told the Dallas Morning News. Ryan has missed three starts because of strained shoulder muscles.
The Milwaukee Brewers waived nine-year veteran Greg Brock, activated infielder Gary Sheffield from the disabled list and called up minor league pitcher Jim Austin. Brock, 34, who came to the Brewers from the Dodgers in 1986, had one homer and six runs batted in.
