A woman accidentally backed over and killed her husband Tuesday morning as she was getting ready to take him to work, San Diego police said.
Henry Baxter Carmichael, 67, was opening a gate about 6:44 a.m. at their home in the 3500 block of 37th Street in East San Diego so his wife could back a car into the alley, Sgt. Michael Davis said.
His wife, Francoise, was getting ready to drive him to work at Super Junior Market, where he worked as a chef, Davis said. The store is in the 1000 block of 7th Avenue in downtown San Diego.
The car “lunged forward, and his wife panicked,” Davis said. “She placed the vehicle in reverse and ran over him, trapping him under the car.”
Baxter was pronounced dead at 7:04 a.m. at the scene, said John Armendariz, investigator for the county medical examiner.
