This Witness Says He Just Told the Truth
Recently I was a witness in a trial relating to three USC football players and a female counselor. In an article printed in The Times on June 12, the deputy city attorney was quoted indirectly as saying that I lied in order to save fellow athletes.
There are some important facts that must be mentioned.
First, I was interviewed and gave a deposition to the city attorney in advance of the trial. He knew, consequently, exactly what I had observed.
Second, with that knowledge he called upon me to appear in court as a witness. I did so and repeated what I had previously stated in the deposition.
Finally, I understand that I was under oath to tell the facts as I witnessed them, not as the city attorney wanted me to testify.
