Fluor Corp.: The Irvine-based firm said second-quarter profit rose 10% on the strength of earnings from its Fluor-Daniel engineering-construction unit. Profit totaled $41.6 million on revenue of $1.7 billion, down 7% from the year-ago period. Earnings for both periods included one-time tax gains. In the current quarter, earnings were boosted $12 million from a federal tax refund plus interest. The 1990 period included a $19-million gain from the reversal of tax reserves related to A. T. Massey Coal Co.
