Outfielder Art Tarin and second baseman David Rojas of San Fernando High lead a group of 13 Valley players who have been selected to the All-City Section 4-A Division baseball team.
Tarin and Rojas, both seniors on the Tigers’ 4-A championship team, are first-time selections.
Three Sylmar players, led by outfielder Dereck Ornelas--a two-time selection--also were named to the team. The other Sylmar selections were junior pitcher Jose Villafana and senior infielder Rob Garcia.
Two players each from Chatsworth and Poly were selected: for the Chancellors, senior outfielder Mitch Root, a repeat selection from a year ago, and senior catcher Adam Pearlman; for the Parrots, senior pitcher-shortstop Raul Torres and senior outfielder Jonathan Campbell.
Other selections include senior shortstop Gregg Sheren of El Camino Real, senior pitcher-outfielder Bryan Martin of Granada Hills, senior outfielder Mike Malkin of Birmingham and sophomore pitcher-shortstop Jorge Dorado of Monroe.
Villafana and Dorado are the lone non-seniors named to the team.
Banning right-hander Mike Busby, who was 11-1 and led the Pilots to a berth in the City 4-A final where he lost to San Fernando, was named the City 4-A player of the year. Busby also made the team last year.
