Housing Needs

In response to Column Left “Lovely Words From Kemp House No One” (by Jesse Jackson, April 9):
Jackson cannot be so naive as to believe that the conservatives such as Housing and Urban Development Secretary Jack Kemp, George Bush and Ronald Reagan are not concerned about the underclass in this country. They merely have different priorities. It costs a great deal of money to be the world’s policeman while at the same time providing welfare for wealthy supporters.
Jackson fails to mention one area where conservatives at both the federal and state levels have already spent a tremendous amount of money and continue to ask for greater expenditures to house and feed a growing segment of the citizenry, our prison population.
