Mono County District Attorney Stan Eller filed suit against the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and the State Water Resources Control Board to re-water the Owens Gorge and to pay for having dried up that Eastern Sierra trophy trout fishery in the 1950s.
Eller said he had filed a 20-page petition in Mono County Superior Court. Eller last year won a landmark fishery case against Nevada farmers over destruction of the East Walker River and participated in the successful campaign to save Mono Lake.
The gorge became an issue last month when an eight-foot-diameter DWP pipeline burst and cut off the supply of water from Crowley Lake to a series of three powerhouses in the gorge and fisheries below.
