A hearty amen to Schneider. Now that our country is gradually recovering from its attack of postwar euphoria and yellow ribbon fever, questions are being asked about what appears to have been our Pyrrhic victory in the Persian Gulf. As the dust raised by our tanks and carpet bombing settles, Americans are going to begin wondering just what was settled by our blitzkrieg against the Iraqi paper tiger. For all the instant gratification produced by our massive show of might, epilogues are sure to be written that reveal ulterior motives by the Bush Administration far less noble and simple than the four principles stated by the President last August.
If I’d been part of this dutiful call to arms, I’d be asking just what was accomplished by this extravagant Sturm und Drang in the Arabian desert?
The prime beneficiary seems to be the royal family of Kuwait, who now have the gold-plated bathroom fixtures back in their palaces.
