SANTA ANA — Police arrested one of two men who allegedly held up a Burger King at gunpoint Thursday and fled on bicycles.
Modesto Lara Montanez, 18, of Santa Ana was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery shortly after the 1:20 p.m. incident at 601 E. Dyer Road.
Police said two men--one armed with a handgun, the other with a rifle or sawed-off shotgun--walked into the restaurant and demanded that a cashier give them money.
After getting about $350 in cash, the gunmen ran outside and pedaled off on bicycles, police said.
Witnesses saw the gunmen ditch the bikes by railroad tracks and run toward a residential neighborhood near the 600 block of East Emmett Street, police said.
Police surrounded the area. With the help of a search dog, officers found Montanez hiding behind a house on the street, they said. The other gunman is still at large.
The weapons and the money have not been found.
