Ventura County sheriff’s detectives are searching for a man who kidnaped a woman at gunpoint from a San Diego County intersection and then drove her to Oak View, where he raped her, officials said Tuesday.
The incident began on Monday afternoon when the 20-year-old woman was forced into the man’s late-model green Ford station wagon at the intersection of Mapleview Street and Maine Avenue, in the San Diego community of Lakeside, sheriff’s Lt. Joe Funchess said.
The man in his mid-30s, described as 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, drove the woman to a secluded area of Oak View, where he raped her, Funchess said. He released her at 8 a.m. Tuesday outside of an Oak View market, where she telephoned police for help.
Funchess said the woman did not know her attacker. Ventura County sheriff’s deputies are being joined in the investigation by detectives from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
