Positive Criticism

Eureka! I’ve discovered some light at the end of the tunnel. What could it be? An art feature by Cathy Curtis on the “Titanic” exhibit that actually has a positive tone (“Compelling Presentation Makes Exhibit on Titanic a Winner,” March 11).
I’m delighted, and I’m hopeful that a writer of Ms. Curtis’ obvious skill will understand that the role of the critic doesn’t require a constant stream of criticism without balance. A good word now and then can be most gratifying to those who build something, such as an exhibit, and can also, when balanced with fair criticism, help to nurture more attempts to achieve the excellence that Ms. Curtis is trying to find.
She can be a positive force in Orange County if she will only continue to mix some positive with the negative.
