An official, county-sponsored parade to welcome home American troops from the Persian Gulf will be held Saturday, May 18, along Alton Parkway near the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
Gaddi H. Vasquez, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, announced plans for the parade Friday. Military bands, marching troops and equipment will parade more than 2 1/2 miles along Alton Parkway, and residents are invited to line the roadway to welcome the troops home.
The parade, set for Armed Forces Day, is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. It will start at Irvine Boulevard, head southeast toward Alton Parkway, then down Alton and end at Jeronimo Road.
“We want to give every person in Orange County the opportunity to express their pride and appreciation to our troops,” Vasquez said in a prepared statement.
