Missouri Court Disallows Anti-Swearing Ordinance

MARYVILLE, Mo. — A court decided that a municipal law against cursing in public violates the right of free speech. The Missouri Court of Appeals in Kansas City ruled Tuesday that “profane, vulgar or indecent” language, forbidden by an ordinance here, may not constitute fighting words, which the court said may be prohibited.
