Ex-Nurse’s Aide Gets Prison Term

A former nurse’s aide, convicted of sexually assaulting an elderly patient at a Glendale convalescent hospital, was sentenced Friday to 13 years in state prison.
Roy Alton Seaton, 45, of Burbank, a former employee of Autumn Hills Convalescent Hospital, received the maximum penalty after a Pasadena Superior Court jury found him guilty of rape with a foreign object and sexual battery. Seaton was arrested after a nurse saw him assaulting an 82-year-old Alzheimer’s patient at 2 a.m. June 27.
Judge Charles C. Lee ordered him to serve eight years on the combined assault charges and an additional five years because Seaton had a previous conviction for child molestation, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Mark Collier, who prosecuted the case.
In deciding on the maximum sentence, the judge considered such factors as the victim’s vulnerability, Seaton’s violation of a position of trust and the apparent planning that took place before the crime was committed, Collier said.
