HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Martinez, Chatsworth Strong-Arm Taft
- Share via
No one can accuse Chatsworth High’s Nestor Martinez, a returning All-City Section second baseman, of resting on his laurels.
Spending a ton of time in the weight room during the summer, Martinez improved his bench-press from 140 to 220 pounds. In a West Valley League baseball victory Tuesday afternoon, he was still pumping iron. Well, aluminum anyway.
Martinez had two hits, including his second home run of the season, and drove in three runs to lead visiting Chatsworth to an 11-6 victory over Taft.
Martinez slammed a two-run homer to right-center that keyed a three-run second inning. Teammate Mitch Root followed with a solo shot to left that gave the Chancellors (4-1, 2-0 in league play) a 7-0 lead.
