Beth Burns, founding artistic director of the St. Joseph Ballet in Santa Ana, was honored as the 32nd Senate District Woman of the Year at an awards ceremony in Sacramento on Monday. Burns founded the dance troupe in 1983 to offer training and dance opportunities to disadvantaged, inner-city youth between the ages of 9 and 19. Her award was given by the Women Legislators’ Caucus in conjunction with Women’s History Month.
