Dennison’s Hit Leads SDSU to Win in 10th

Scott Dennison singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th to drive in the winning run as San Diego State defeated UC Irvine, 3-2, Saturday in college baseball.
Dennison was four for five with two RBIs.
James Davis threw one pitch in the 10th to pick up the win for host SDSU (12-6) when the batter lined into a double play with one out to end the inning.
UC Irvine dropped to 10-12.
UC Santa Barbara swept a doubleheader from U.S. International at Players’ Field, 2-1 and 10-2. In the opener, Jeff Antoon singled home former Helix player Rich Haar, who doubled with two outs, to score the game winner off Jeff Matranga (2-4) in the top of the fifth. USIU (5-15) had runners on second and third with no outs in the first inning and couldn’t score.
In the nightcap, the Gouchos (13-6) capitalized on 13 hits and nine walks. Gull starter Mike Whisonant (0-6) walked six batters in 3 2/3 and was chased early.
Ryan Flanagan pitched a complete game to pick up his first win in UCSD’s, 5-3, victory over Methodist College. Flanagan struck out five and issued just two walks.
At the plate, UCSD was led by Loui Diaz, who had two hits, including a two-run double, and Erikk Aldridge, who went two for two and reached base five times.
UCSD is 5-10, Methodist is 4-4.
The University of San Diego whalloped host University of San Francisco, 19-3, in a West Coast Conference game. The Toreros (11-10-2, 6-5), who had 22 hits, entered the top of the fifth in a 1-1 tie then scored 18 runs in the final five innings. Tony Moeder went 5-5 with a home run and two doubles for USD.
