HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL BOYS’ STATE REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS : This Time, Estancia Is 64-40 Winner Over Pomona

Matt Fuerbringer and Torrey Hammond combined for 30 points and 34 rebounds to lead Costa Mesa Estancia over Pomona, 64-40, for the Southern Regional State Division III championship Saturday at the Sports Arena.
Estancia (28-5), which lost to Pomona in the Southern Section Division III-AA final last week, plays Hayward Mt. Eden next Saturday for the state title in Oakland.
Fuerbringer and Hammond, both 6-foot-5, helped Estancia outrebound Pomona, 49-25, in a game in which both teams shot poorly. Pomona made 17 of 66 field-goal attempts; Estancia was 27 of 62.
Hammond had 16 points and 20 rebounds for Estancia, and Fuerbringer had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Johnny McWilliams led Pomona (24-7) with 14 points.
