Long Beach’s Fourth Loss in a Row Comes Against San Jose St., 71-68

SAN JOSE — Mike Brotherton made two free throws and forced a key turnover in the final minute as San Jose State defeated Cal State Long Beach, 71-68, Monday night.
It was the fourth consecutive loss for the 49ers (8-13 overall, 4-8 Big West).
Brotherton’s two free throws gave San Jose State (6-16, 4-9) a 66-63 lead with 48 seconds to play. He then deflected a 49er pass to teammate Robert Crump before Terry Cannon’s foul shot gave the Spartans a 67-63 lead.
Crump made two free throws with nine seconds to play and Cannon added two more with two seconds remaining as the Spartans ended a three-game losing streak.
Cannon led San Jose State with 15 points Crump and Mike Wasserburger had 12 each.
