Sheriff’s Tipsters Can Call New Gang Hotline

As a follow-up to its recent anti-gang rally in La Puente, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has established a toll-free Gang Tip Hotline to report gang activity.
Individuals can anonymously telephone (800) 56 GANGS. When an operator is not available, callers can leave a recorded message.
The tip line is just one element of what the Sheriff’s Department promises to be an all-out, anti-gang effort involving schools, businesses, churches and community groups. Those organizations have formed a coalition known as Operation COURAGE (Community Opposition and United Resistance Against Gang Evils).
About 3,500 people participated in the Jan. 12 rally, coordinated by the Industry sheriff’s station. Marchers from the Bassett Unified, Hacienda La Puente Unified and Rowland Unified school districts paraded into La Puente Park from three directions--complete with cheerleaders and bands.
Participants listened to celebrities, law enforcement officers and former gang members urge a united community to oppose gang activity, which has increased rapidly in the La Puente area.
