UNLV Nets Tennis Upset Over Toreros

Unranked Nevada-Las Vegas upset 25th-ranked University of San Diego Sunday, 5-4, in a nonconference men’s tennis match.
The Toreros trailed 4-2 after singles play. Frederick Axater defeated John Swano 6-1, 6-4, and Matt Foote defeated David Hostalek, 6-3, 6-1.
USD is 0-2, UNLV 1-1.
BASEBALL
Loyola Marymount scored four runs in the seventh inning to score a nonconference victory, 8-4, over U.S. International in the season opener.
Mike Murphy went three for four, scored three runs and had two doubles for the Gulls; Darrin Forster had two hits and two RBIs.
USIU is 0-1.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Mike Schlegel had 25 kills to lead San Diego State to a 15-8, 13-15, 15-8, 12-15, 15-10 victory at Pepperdine.
The Aztecs had a field day hitting: Sean Clark added 21 kills, John Ross 17, Mike Mattarocci 14 and Eric Etebari 11.
SDSU is 2-0, Pepperdine 1-2.
