Television and film star Tom Selleck has made a large donation to complete the Center for Motion Picture Study, a film library and archives.
Actor Karl Malden, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, declined Monday to say how much money Selleck gave, saying the star of the former CBS series “Magnum P.I.” wanted the amount to remain private.
The $15-million center, which will be unveiled Wednesday, will combine collections of the academy’s library, photo collection and film archives under one roof for the first time.
“I think what the academy is doing is very important,” Selleck said. “As someone who has been very fortunate in this business, I think it’s essential to put something back.”
