Bernard Lifts Fresno State to Victory Over Long Beach

FRESNO — Tod Bernard scored a game-high 22 points in leading Fresno State to a 77-73 Big West Conference victory over Cal State Long Beach Friday night.
Bernard made 11 of 15 shots from the field as Fresno State, 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference, hit 57% for the game.
Long Beach (4-6 and 0-2) was confined by a zone defense and shot 40%.
Long Beach guard Lucious Harris, who entered the game averaging 24.3 points per game, was held to 14 points on a five-for-23 night.
Fresno State guard Carl Ray Harris scored 18 points and forward Wilbert Hooker added 13 for the Bulldogs.
Long Beach, which never led, pulled to within one point at 69-68 with 2:15 left in the game, but Hooker and guard Dave Barnett each scored four points to seal the victory.
