COLLEGE ROUNDUP : SCC’s Late Rally Sinks Evangel, 72-68

Elbert Davis and Ron Scipio each scored a layup in the final minute to give Southern California College a 72-68 victory over Evangel of Springfield, Mo., Thursday at Costa Mesa.
With Evangel leading, 68-66, Jeff Bickmore made two free throws with 1 minute 30 seconds remaining. Elbert Davis stole the ball with about a minute left and scored an uncontested layup to give SCC a 70-68 lead. Scipio scored his layup with 10 seconds left to seal the victory.
In Big West Conference women’s basketball:
Hawaii 68, UC Irvine 37--Yvonne Catala scored 12 points for UC Irvine (2-8, 0-1). Hawaii is 6-2, 1-0.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Phillips University 81, Chapman 62--Missy Abraham and Christine Carroll each scored 12 for host Chapman (7-6).
