No Damage Reported in 3.8 Bakersfield Quake

BAKERSFIELD — A small earthquake Tuesday rattled part of Kern County, authorities said.
The 8:56 a.m. temblor was centered nine miles east of Bakersfield and registered magnitude 3.8, said Robert Finn, a spokesman for the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
There were no reports of damage or injuries, but Kern County sheriff’s dispatcher Karen Ramirez said the department received dozens of calls from people reporting the quake.
Bakersfield, 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley, has a population of about 170,000.
