BLEAK PROFILE: The county’s Homeless Issues Task Force gives this rough description of our homeless population: Most are between 25 and 49, the largest segment in their 30s. Two-thirds are male, and nearly two-thirds are white. . . . More than a quarter have children, and 18% have more than one. Half the children are 5 years or younger. Eleven percent are working; 67% are looking for work. . . . Almost half have been homeless for more than a year, almost a quarter for more than three years. Four in 10 have been county residents for more than 10 years.
