Major home additions, including second stories, must now be authorized by the city’s Architectural Review Board, the City Council decided Tuesday.
A current ban on second story additions, passed by the council in July, will expire Jan. 15. After that, second story additions and additions of more than 600 square feet must be approved by the board. The board will notify immediate neighbors before making any decisions on second stories.
Under the new law, unanimously approved Tuesday, second stories must now be located at least 20 feet from back-yard property lines. The old requirement was five feet.
