FULLERTON : Norby Replaces Catlin as Mayor

Chris Norby, who teaches government at Brea Junior High School, got a belated present a day after his 41st birthday when he was elected mayor last Tuesday by a 3-2 vote of the City Council.
Norby, who was elected to the council in 1984 and again in 1988, will replace A.B. (Buck) Catlin as mayor. Norby also serves on the Santa Ana River Flood Control Authority and as the city’s alternate delegate to the Orange County Sanitation District.
A self-described “hometown boy and third-generation Fullertonian,” Norby earned his master’s degree in history from Cal State Fullerton, where he maintains ties as a member of the Titan Athletic Foundation and the President’s Circle.
Norby said he wants to make the community more aware of the role that local government plays. As an educator, he said, he realizes that people do not always know how local government affects them in everyday life.
Norby also said that securing a financial base for the city is among his priorities as mayor.
