HUNTINGTON BEACH — A Huntington Beach salesman was struck by a car and killed Friday night as he was dashing across a busy street, police said Saturday.
He was identified as Robert Philbin, 30, who died shortly after the 6:26 p.m. traffic accident, police said.
The driver, William Harper, 21, of Placentia, was not injured and was not expected to be cited, police said.
Philbin was walking along Edinger Avenue near the San Diego Freeway overpass when he tried to run across the street, witnesses told police. But as he was crossing, he was struck by Harper’s car.
Philbin was airlifted to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said. Police said that they consider the death accidental.
